Hi everyone. I have just passed my 5 year anniversary of having a Jpouch, which I am so grateful for. However.....my energy levels are always low, and have been since my UC days. I recently learnt that Vitamin B is absorbed in the ileum in the small intestine, just before the large intestine. As my large intestine was removed due to UC, and then my Jpouch was formed with some of my small intestine, does this mean my ileum has been compromised and my absorbtion of vitamin B is non existent?  I know that a vitamin B jab will work as its straight into my blood stream, but does this mean to have normal energy levels I will need to have regular jabs? Any advice or corrections happily accepted.

J-pouchers do not normally become deficient in the various B vitamins. There is some risk of Vitamin B12 deficiency, but if that’s advanced enough to cause anemia (and thus low energy) then it’s pretty easy to detect with a simple blood test. It’s best to work out the actual cause of the problem before planning on the solution.
