I am just trying to get some sort of understanding of what constitutes a "flareup" and what is normal j-pouch behaviour.

I find that more frequent and smaller bowel movements with an inability to empty my pouch is a result of some pouch issues (either a flareup / pouchitis) or something like that.  In addition, lots of gas and really loud bowel movement resembling a "motor-type" sound seems to be related to the same kind of issues.

Less frequent bowel movements, less gas, less noisy motor-like sounds, and the ability to empty my pouch with a pasty consistency seems to be a healthier and better functioning pouch.

If anyone could chime in with your own feedback on this it would be appreciated.

Thanks.
