With so many different medicines available used in treating some of the same complications related to j-pouch, what is the most common factor the GI drs consider in deciding which one is the correct one for their patient.
Cipro and/or Flagyl are the first-line treatments for pouchitis. The only reason to start with something else is if the patient is known to be intolerant to one or both. If something else is needed, because the treatment causes unacceptable side effects or doesn’t work, or the condition becomes chronic then the decision-making gets more complicated.
