So I have been keeping a record most days of my bowel movements.  I simply keep a sheet of paper with a pen in the bathroom and jot down the time of each one.  I have bene trying to do it daily.  When not at home, I try to make a mental note and add it when I return.  On average overt the past few days, I am at 7-9 per 24-hour period.  This starts at midnight and goes to the next night same time.  This is while on the biologic Simponi (1 injection of 100mg every 4 weeks) and while taking my usual 360mg of Codeine daily.

I asked my GI a few weeks ago if she could recommend a specific type of fiber to take as a supplement to maybe thicken up the output.  I don't imagine that taking additional fiber will decrease my BMs, only thicken them (and possibly increase the number, not sure).   Anyway, she recommended I take 1 TBSP of either Metamucil or Benefibre Granules daily with 2 glasses of water.

Any suggestions as to which I should try?  I have taken Metamucil many years ago in different forms so not sure what would be best.  Also, if I go with Metamucil, can anyone suggest whether I should take the plain kind without any taste (and mix with juice etc.) or get the orange flavored kind and mix with water?  I am wondering if there is a difference in the results I might get.

THANKS...

I got better results from Metamucil than Benefiber when I compared them. I mix a half dose of flavored/sugar-sweetened Metamucil with a half dose of Original Konsyl. I prefer not to consume artificial sweeteners. The Metamucil capsules didn’t work properly for me, but the wafers were just fine when I used them.
