Hi. I have had my pouch since 2004. Due to chronic pouchitis, I rotate Xifaxan, Cipro and Augmentin. For the most part, it has been a good pouch. No complaints.

In the last year, however, I have had 10 bouts of nausea and vomiting. Sometimes these are accompanied by diarrhea, sometimes not. Sometimes pain, sometimes not. Most vomiting periods last 12 hours, then I am fine but weakened for a while. I have had obvious blockages before, most of these do not seem like blockages.

Have any of you experienced this? Any advice. I will call my doctor Monday. I have just been in denial, hoping things would resolve.

My doc, at this point, diagnosed Chronic Vomiting Syndrome. Not a lot is known about it, but she described it as a migraine in the gut. For now, when I begin to feel it coming on, I am to take an anti-nausea med, then a few Xanax to knock me out. She says often, if you sleep before, it can stop the progression to vomiting.
Time will tell.

Maverick - I do feel full fairly quickly. I will mention that at my follow-up. Thanks.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I have migraines,  and the first time I had one, I  vomited, but not anymore.  It's interesting that there is such a thing as migraine of the gut. If it was a quick motility issue, you would feel nausea all the time, not intermittently. So I'm backing away from the motility hypothesis. I hope your new treatment plan works for you.

From an observer perspective, it is interesting that migraines can cause so many symptoms. I had an amazing student a few years back that suddenly got debilitating migraines. She could not even walk. The family finally went to Boston to participate in a trial. She was accepted and eventually went to her prom on her own to feet. I do not know many details, but am so glad she regained function.

Thanks for all the replies.
