Hi,

I am only 18 months post op and I have tried every ointment and the lidocaine. Nothing ever consistently worked well.

I take 4 Imodium per day. It seems to slow down my transit time enough for the caustic digestive fluids to be reabsorbed before exit.

This greatly helps my situation. I don’t know if it will work for you, but it is my only viable solution for the fire shooting out of my butt 😩.

Even plain zinc oxide will usually permit healing if it’s applied *after* each BM, so the barrier is always in place when it’s needed.

I also strongly recommend a bidet attachment on the toilet. There are fancy, expensive ones, remarkably inexpensive ones, and everything in between. Thorough cleaning without scraping makes a big difference for me.

I don’t know how many BMs you tend to have per day, but if it’s already in the 4-6 range then adding or increasing a bowel slower, like Imodium or Lomotil, may not be ideal. In any case, if you haven’t tried it already, psyllium fiber could potentially make a big difference. Stools that are too liquid tend to be fairly irritating, and the psyllium adds bulk to the stool. I just follow the package directions with breakfast and dinner - YMMV.

Good luck!
