I have had pretty bad lower abdominal  pains when I walk or stand for too long.  the pain gets worse faster if I am going uphill or carrying anything.  Once I sit down it goes away.  I was at the neurologist for an unrelated problem with my shoulders.  He recommended a celiac plexus block.  One of the possible side effects is diarrhea and there are more serious ones like paralysis.  (rare) It feels like we may be jumping the gun.  Shouldn't blood flow be measured first?  I have venous insufficiency in my legs so maybe they can check my abdomen as well?  Anyone have experience in this area?  TIA

The celiac plexus innervates the nerves to the intestine and stomach (amongst other things).  If the pain is not originating from these areas and has its origin in the venous insufficiency or circulatory problems then the block won't help.

I would be concerned that with the intestinal issues you have had that blocking nerve signals from the intestine, stomach, gall bladder and pancreas might cause more problems than solve.  I would want a thorough investigation on the cause of the pain rather than just treating a symptom.

Just my two cents worth.

All the best this festive season.
