I am 23 and skinny, had my takedown 12 months ago. I still get some mild pain around my old stoma site after exercise, and I don’t work out hard. I thought it could be a hernia, but my doctor said it wasn’t when he felt it. He said it’s most likely scar tissue. Anyone knows how to get this to go away? Should I do any kind of massage or do some exercises to work up muscles around the area? Thanks!

I also wondered if it’s normal for the area around the stoma site to bulge out when leaning backwards and sort pushing the stomach out? I wonder if that’s the scar tissue. Thank you!

Have you shown that bulging out to your doctor? That really sounds like a hernia.

Though a hernia does not need to be associated with pain. Mine is unremarkable for 5 years now, it is above the belly button and it bulges out when a pressure builds up inside. For example when doing a movement as you described.

But that mild pain may also be related to scar tissue, as your doctor suspected.

I have had two doctors feel the area and say it’s not a hernia, but idk. Hopefully just scar tissue
