I hope my experience can help some of you. A little background first……I have had a high functioning Jpouch for 36 years now. At the age of 31 my UC came on fast and furious. It was during my second pregnancy and I ended up have my entire large bowel removed at 23 weeks pregnant. We both made it through the surgery and I ended up with an ileostomy, and a mucus fistula for the remaining time of my pregnancy. Happily and incredibly I delivered a beautiful healthy baby girl. 3 months after the delivery I had my second surgery to build my Jpouch and remove my mucus fistula and another surgery followed to close the ileostomy. After years of trial and error to improve my life and reduce my bowel movements I discovered Physillum Husk POWDER. It changed my life. It absorbs my loose stools , slows everything down and gives me something I can hang onto. I use about a tablespoon mixed with a bit of juice/water. Drink it down quickly, take 2 Imodium tablets and I sleep soundly through the night. I also take it if I have a busy active day. It’s all natural and it’s my belief that it neutralizes the acids in my pouch. I’ve been doing this for years. I still have some problems from time to time but overall it has been a miracle for me. I’ve recently found it available on Amazon but be careful ordering…..it must be the POWDER not the husk. PHYSILLUM POWDER ONLY!. I hope this helps some of you. It won’t hurt to try it. Drink lots of water after you take it as well. Works quicker that way. Let me know if anyone has any success with this. I’m here if you have any questions.

JJpouchlolly What time of the day do you take the psyllium husk powder?  It sounds like you take it sometime, then you take it again if you have many stools in a given day (despite already have taken psyllium) with the imodium before bed.  Is this correct?

I also wonder what your other habits are like as far as food, exercise, meditation/prayer, etc.  Do you ever take probiotics?  Do you imbibe in caffeine & alcohol?  Red meat?  Dairy?  Wheat?  I'm super curious about the life of any healthy, non-medicated j-poucher, especially those with a history of UC!

Hi!  With the exception of Imodium I take nothing else but I do try and eat healthy. In the morning , every morning I mix up a nutritious  shake as follows, almond milk, avacado, blueberries, spinach, plant protein, tumeric, black sunflower seed powder. On an empty stomach my body absorbs all that nutrition. Lunch and dinner are normal. I do take 2 probiotics capsules a day plus 5000 units of vit D. That’s pretty much it. Physillum powder as needed depending on my activity . I taught figure skating for 35 years and worked full time in the city Clerks office. Happily have led a very normal life. So thankful for that. It’s taken me a long time to figure this out so if I can help anyone, happy to do so. I try an eliminate everything in my pouch during the day and shut things down at night. 1 tbsp of psyllium powder 2 Imodium. My pouch is good shape. No pouchitis so far. It’s a full time job keeping myself healthy but it’s worth it.
