I want to preface this by saying I will call my GI on Monday. But in the mean time, I need some advice. For the last month, it’s been difficult to empty even if it’s just liquid. I thought it was hemorrhoids at first, but as time went on I thought it could be something else all together. Over the last two weeks, I can’t empty unless I’ve taken a laxative, my go to is magnesium citrate. And even then, I have so much difficulty emptying. Even bearing down does nothing. I reached out to a Facebook group and someone mentioned a possible stricture. I have some pain and cramping. But my main concern is how it just feels blocked. I don’t think it’s a blockage because I’ve used so much magnesium citrate lately, there couldn’t possibly be one. Does anyone have a similar story or advice?

Mag Citrate won’t clear most blockages, and blockages don’t make it difficult to empty a full pouch. A stricture is a possibility, and I wouldn’t suggest pouring Mag Citrate in behind it. Increasing your fluids might help. If you are inclined to self-diagnose you could possibly check the pouch outlet by *gently* inserting a well-lubricated, preferably gloved finger (the anastomosis may be out of reach, though). Some folks who have trouble emptying use a catheter to flush out the pouch. Hopefully your GI can see you promptly. Good luck.
