Hi, had a nasty obstruction last Sunday night. To make it worse, cause it was the middle of the night i was pushing way too hard to go and now have nasty internal hemmoroids to boot...i think the obstruction moved along on wed night, felt something breakup and pain is a little less.

My question is if i am still having gut pain, do i have to force myself to eat? Yesterday, I tried toast, avocado, chicken broth and it hurt a bit after each item. I am going but since havent eaten much solids its all just liquid and gas.hoping this passes without a ct scan - those are couple thousand even with great insurance...Thanks for any help

Thanks! When i mean solid foods i meant liitle mac n cheese, a greek yogurt and half a banana so far today. Will start drinking more calories like ensure when i get to the store in the morning.

Think i finally turned a corner cause the pain has subsided somewhat today. I have had a few obstructions in the past but they would pushed through in few hrs..this one took days..

The more food you eat, the more active your intestine is and the more stuff “packs up” against that obstruction.  When I have one (often) I eat as little as possible and sip water and sport drinks just to stay hydrated.  Sometimes I’ll have a little jello or milk.

Put another way- when I go to the hospitals for obstructions they stop all by mouth until cleared.  You don’t want to make your situation worse by adding more stuff to bloat out your intestines.
