It is pretty normal for people to have sensitivity to sugar, particularly fruit sugars (fructose), particularly as we get older. After colectomy and our gut is adapting, you may not absorb everything. The key is smaller portions and combining different types of food. If you are avoiding sugar by eating/drinking things with sugar substitutes, be sure to avoid sugar alcohols. These are not digested and cause diarrhea. They include sorbitol, malitol, mannitol, etc.. Sucralose, stevia, and aspartame are OK, unless you have a specific sensitivity.
