I have pouchitis. For the last 2 weeks, I have had extremely painful gas. It doesn't matter what I eat. I bloat up and have painful gas. Sometime gas x relieves it and sometimes it doesn't. I am still having BM 4 or 5 times a day. I can't pass the gas unless I am on the toilet. Sharts. It is getting to the point that I dread eating because I know I will be in pain afterwards. I take digestive enzymes before eating but they don't help either. I also take probiotics. Any suggestions why I am so gassy. Also suggestions on how to make it go away.

Thanks,

Ronda

Hi Ronda,  Sorry to hear this I am having similar issues post partial obstruction that occurred at the end of April. Although not painful, I have of a lot of gas. A course of augmentin didn't do much to settle things down. I do have a pouchoscopy next week that will hopefully shed some light on what is going on, and I will share any findings if I think they could be helpful.   In your case,  it could be that the pouchitis has been undertreated or you need another course of antibiotics.  When I have painful gas, it's usually related to my adhesions or a partial obstruction - your post did not mention this, but if the pain is fairly localized, adhesions could be a factor and you may be feeling discomfort as the gas/stool passes these areas.  It would be worth a call to your surgeon/GI to review your symptoms, especially if you are currently taking antibiotics without effect.
