Hello

I have Crohn’s Disease and have had a J pouch since 1998. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 1999 after the surgery to develop the J pouch. I have had trouble through the years with anal skin irritation. I had tried various creams and ointments, including hydrocortisone, antifungals, zinc oxide, and topical antibiotics. Does anyone have solution I have not thought of yet? It is a constant fight to keep that area clean and painless as I use the bathroom 10-12 times a day.

I take frequent showers.  People keep telling me to get a bidet, but I have a small bathroom I share with my boyfriend and as it is, I spend enormous amount of time cleaning the toilet are from him missing the toilet and me having a lot of splatter from gas. There is no room to have a bidet/area to clean more/even have a small  this or that that people have recommended.  I was also fortunate enough to go to (after mine moved away) a colo-rectal surgeon who prescribes me a compound I get at a pharmacy.. the main  ingredient is Bentontite which believe it or not, is a clay!! It's in a cream form and it heals as well as coats. I know that would not be available to you. But again, I just take frequent showers and keep that area clean!!!  To me, that is the thing that really works. Also, before Corona,  I traveled a lot so having to be dependent on a bidet would not work. I shower at least twice a day, sometimes more. Just plain old soap and hot water and let the water from the shower soothe and clean. When things get out of whack, I use baby soap or Ivory soap so the soap doesn't sting. Be sure to dry that area carefully, standing in front of a fan or using a blow dryer or just making sure not to put your underware on too quickly and trap moisture.. that will also cause big problems. Good luck

I’ve tried all different OTC and prescribed medicines over the years nothing really seems to work that well until I recently came  across an item called Triple Paste.  Thanks to my niece who uses it on her baby. It works very well for me. Much better then desitin or AD.
I got mine on AMAZON but have seen it also in the drug stores in baby isle.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Great tips you guys! I’m having a flare up with my jpouch - frequent pooping with lots of crazy gas. I think it’s due to having to take antibiotics for dental work- talk about butt burn! I’m going on Amazon right away and see what I can order! 😍

What did you end up buying? Calmoseptine is great for me It's annoying they don't sell it in my country but without Amazon my butt would be red raw.

Dear Eniak1980,

We have identical medical issues. I'm always dealing with anal skin irritation. I've found that the best (non-irritating) wipes are Target's Fragrance-free. I take out about 25 at a time rinse them in warm water and ring-out any remaining chemicals. I've tried every wipe on the market and these are the best. After using the softest toilet paper that I can find, then I use the moist wipes, and then let it dry for a couple of minutes, and then cover the irritated area with generic petroleum jelly.  I am never without petroleum jelly on the irritated area.

Also, when the butt burn is really bad, I clean the irritated area and apply Lidocaine Hydrochloride Jelly 2% (only by prescription), when the burning subsides, I add petroleum jelly.

PS - I've tried the Lidocaine 5%, but it burns like hell. The 2% burns a little in the beginning but, after 30 seconds it starts to numb the area.

I hope this helps! Do hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions!

image@Chook- I ordered my sudocrem from Walmart (I’m in Seattle Washington - USA) under $12 and delivered in 3 days!  Active ingredient is zinc oxide w/ some lanolin. Very nice but honestly you could buy the zinc and add lanolin and make it your self. But I’ll use it. Very mild effective and smells nice.

On to water cleansing 💦  To further reduce butt burn. I now use water!  For those who can’t add a bidet to their toilet, like me, I recommend Tushy’s travel Bidet! I bought a Pink  one and it’s amazing! Included a pic to show - go to tushy.com. A couple squeezes and water spiffs you up then a dab of  🧻 and your done! No pain and clean!!! Having a j pouch as such a complex journey we should try to find ways to reduce our stress and pain ! Enjoy your day or night! 💯👍🏼🤩

I find as a guy the travel bidet with the small angled spout is best .I also find the travel bidets are easier to clean as they do get splash on them and you can put warm water in them and that feels great I also bought a one size fits all toilet seat bidet that didn't fit and I don't know how easy to keep them clean .the travel bidet is easy clean, warm water if you don't have an electrician and cheap
