If you are on opiates for pain (or Lomotil or Imodium) you should stop them as soon as you can. Are you on any other medications that might cause this?

Sometimes the bowel takes some time to “wake up” after surgery. This is called a post-operative ileus. If that’s what’s going on the best solution is time, along with making sure you don’t become dehydrated.

What are you eating? Like the previous responce, pain medications do cause constipation, and sometimes the bowel needs to "wake up". I was advised after fasting for an operation, and after having bowel surgery, to start off having liquids (soups and yogurt, which can get boring after a while!), see how you go, then build up to soft foods and go from there. I guess it helps with your body getting used to digesting things again.
