Hi!

I posted similar in another forum but got no help there, so wondering if its better I post in the fap specific forum.

I've had my jpouch for 6 years, and for the past year I have a loop ileostomy. Jpouch usually produces mucous and I am usually alright with emptying but recently (probably begining of the year, but its getting worse) I've been facing problems with emptying. Im finding it hard to relax and when I do nothing comes out (yet I have the irritation and feeling like I need to go, which feels like its happening constantly and of a night). I've been putting pressure on my anus to help expel mucous which works but I feel like I shouldn't be doing this.

I'm under st marks hospital in London, and the internal pouch nurse said I will need to irrigate which I have no problem with, but I'm worried my pouch is giving up on me and I will eventually need to have my jpouch removed.

Has anyone here had the same problem? If anyone can give some friendly advice I'd appreciate it!

Thanks

I don’t have mucous but I think I did when I had a fissure early on. after surgery. I did have a hard time emptying after about a year after as if output wasn’t thinner, more watery, incomplete emptying. For me, they ordered a cystodefocography. (Spelling)? It is an X-ray they take while you privately are in a room after they insert this type of paste and videotape how it is going through the pouch from stomach all the way through. Mine ended up showing a rectocele and narrowing of sphincter (closing up), as well as my pouch had shifted to the left and lower than original surgery. I decided to just live with it rather than risk results of another method. Perhaps they can do this type of test where you are. The above could be some possibilities of what you might be experiencing. So many things. Mucous could be scar tissue shedding. I had that going on at one time. You could be so many things, that I would definitely make an appointment to see what they think you should do to check it out.

I certainly wouldn’t just go by what this nurse said. Make appointment with surgeons office or GI specialist and be persistent in asking to speak with them and don’t be dismissed. I also do irrigation a few times a day just to help with any irritation of incomplete emptying. Konsyl brand fiber is the absolute best. Calmoseptine ointment for skin (burn itch) is about the only one that has both calming and healing ingredients) and is thick enough to protect.  Food tips. Pasta, rice, potato, sweet potato, peanut butter help thicken output. Plain Fiber psyllium husk with no additives is excellent to bulk up and drink before a meal. I do this 3-4 x day. I use my Aroma electric food steamer for many meals so I don’t need to cook with many oils. The kind that has a steamer basket on top of the rice cooker area. Steamed carrots, potato, zucchini, white fish filets, cubed peeked potatoes, and rice or pasta in the bottom. Oatmeal with slivered almonds or berries cooked in the oatmeal help fill you up and bulk things up.  I cook the fruit or slivered nuts right in with oatmeal to soften and easily digest. Non-citrus fruits like peaches or blueberries banana with oat milk or non dairy milk and tsp of chia seeds help bulk but if seeds bother you then eliminate. I can only do nuts seeds skins blended or cooked really well.
I know you didn’t ask for any of this other stuff but I thought it might be helpful so added to my post for you. Sorry no one else responded.

Oh thanks for your responce! Im gonna try and book an appointment to speak to my surgeon, though corona isnt allowing face to face appointments.

Idk why my pouch is doing this, ive had my jpouch for 6 years, and im currently living with my loop ileostomy (had it for a year and im not having it reversed due to desmoid tunours causing bowel obstructions). Im eating "beige" food (white carbs) and wouldn't think diet would affect mucous prodiction and the irritation im having?

I have had no problems up untill the beginning of this year and i just wanna know what's going on. Im cleaning the area, im using germaloid cream (basicly the same ingredientsuused to what youve suggested) and it does help a lot but i can still feel the irritation.
