Hey folks haven't been on in a while...I have had my j pouch for 18 years and have had a lot of scar adhesion surgeries and problems with blockages. That isn't my problem now. Lately my bowels are constantly gurgling and moving very loudly. Lower abdomen mostly. Also I have sooooo much gas! I have never had this problem before. And I have been having to go to the bathroom more at night. I guess I shouldn't complain because at least my bowels aren't blocked and I'm not in the hospital having surgery. But it is extremely annoying and keeping me up at night. I don't have pouchitus so that isn't it. I have control of my bowels just have to go a lot more. I have never taken Imodium or anything for gas. If anyone has any advice please help! This isn't just occasionally, it is every day now!

When I started to have excessive gas it turned out to be SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). A couple of months of doxycycline cleared it up. I understand that rifaximin is now sometimes used instead, and that would tend to be less prone to side effects.

GrannyJ64 - I joined the site today & came across your post when searching for people with similar issues to myself. I see that you posted this about a year or so ago & was wondering if you ever found the cause of your constant gurgling & if you were able to address it. I’d love to hear how you got on as my symptoms sound identical to yours. I hope things have improved for you.
