I had my first flare up three months after my jpouch surgery. I was put on Cypro for two weeks and felt great. About three days after being off I started to feel symptoms again, so my doc told me to up my probiotic, which helped. Three months later, I have another flare. Cypro again for two weeks feeling great, symptoms are back within three days, so I was put back on cypro for another two weeks. I was feeling good again. Three days off, now I’m having very loose stool, major burning before and after going, more frequency, and my appetite is barely existing... I feel like shit. Thoughts? Ideas? Help!

Are you still taking probiotics? Were you taking the probiotics between the flare? What probiotics are you using? I am usually put on Cipro and flygal maybe you need that to fully get rid of pouchitis, with it's return so quickly I would say that you aren't on antibiotics long enough or they are not doing enough on their own.

I was going through something similar, I am now taking Visbiome, twice daily. I am hoping this will stop the reoccurrence, I was having success with just once a day but no longer. My doctor still has concerns and we will be going there once covid is not such an issue. I never have much of an appetite and it gets worse when I am on antibiotics.

Bloesch, some of us (like me) simply have to stay on antibiotics all the time. Before you do that, I’d suggest seeing if everything short of that might be sufficient. If I were in your shoes, I’d try a maximal dose of a strong probiotic (e.g. Visbiome Extra Strength, 4 packets per day) plus a course of Cipro + Flagyl. I’d stay on that probiotic dose as long as you can, but it does get very expensive. Good luck!
