So I developed UC in 2016 and ended up having three surgeries in 2017 for the jpouch. I have had issues on and off since my takedown with pouchitis. I’ve tried taking flag up but it’s to hard on my stomach so I have been on and off Cipro which helps lessen my symptoms but doesn’t completely make them go away. I have been on Cipro since December and just had a stop yesterday and the dr is still saying I have pouchitis.  I just wanted to see if anyone has had this issue and what other treatments you’ve tried. Should I just keep taking the Cipro? Will I ever have relief

If the Cipro isn’t giving you adequate relief there are other antibiotics to try: rifaximin, Augmentin, Tindamax, and maybe a couple of others. When one antibiotic doesn’t do the trick, sometimes a combination will work, and that may be at a low enough dose to avoid side effects. So, for example, you might be able to add a low dose of Flagyl that you can tolerate just fine. If you can’t find an antibiotic or a combination that does the trick, the next step would probably be one of the biologic medications (Remicade, Humira, Entyvio, etc.). This is certainly a nuisance, but it’s worth finding a stable treatment that let’s you feel well and live your life.
