Hi guys,

Yesterday I went though a scanning of my pouch with radiocontrast agent (is that what it is called in English?). Still waiting to hear what my doctor says, but they told me, that my pouch seemed dilated but there was fine passage. She also indicated that they think they can spot a bit of change but then added that it would take a camera exam to get further answers. Now my question is for you... Does any of you know what a dilated pouch could be an indication of? I have a lot of gas all the time which bothers me a great deal. Could it have to do with this? And do you have any tips about how to avoid gassed building up?

Thank you all

Sometimes excessive gas is a sign of SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). This is usually treated with several months of an antibiotic (commonly doxycycline or the much more expensive rifaximin). And sometimes gas is just...gas (from beans, sodas, swallowing air while eating quickly, broccoli, etc.). If you haven’t had a pouchoscopy before it’s probably worth a look, though the information probably won’t be life-changing. I guess lots of gas over an extended time period might dilate a pouch, but perhaps your doctor will come up with additional possibilities.

Yes, “radiocontrast agent” is fine in English. It’s sometimes just called “dye,” but that’s less accurate.
