I'm 5 days after my reversal. I was sent home after 3 days. however now that im home when i go to the bathroom as soon as i sit down things just GO! and when its done there is an involuntary straining still going on..sometimes it hurts..It worrys me alot and i just want to get to a spot in my life where things will become easier..

Also when i need to pee..i basically cant..i feel like i sorta need to but cant. The only fool proof way i have found to being able to pee is to start a warm bath and it takes maybe 30 seconds of sitting down in the water or having a hot shower run down me that i can pee. I'm a 24 year old male and havent read much of anyone else having the peeing problem..

I can only offer you this: A week after I got home from the hospital from my first surgery I couldn't pee. Only a trickle would come out at a time. I thought I had a UTI. I also had bad lower back pain. It turned out I had an abscess in my pelvic area from the surgery and the abscess was large enough to be resting up against my bladder....that's why I couldn't pee.

Not saying this is what is going on with you but I just wanted to share my experience. It could just simply be your body reacting to the anesthesia and the trauma of the surgery or a urinary tract infection. Always best to check with your doctor or surgeon.
I didnt have a catheter during the reversal so im leaning away from UTI. i have been reading about the abscess..can that go away on its own? or how would the doc determine thats what it is?..and would it still make sense that i can pee provided im in a hot bath or shower? while in the hospital i might add i could pee fine but it would take awhile.
I had complete urinary retention for 6 months after step one. No problem after step two. My urologist encouraged me to keep trying to void naturally prior to self catheterizing. No luck for a long time. Gradually, some drops of urine appeared naturally and over a month or two, increased. Soon, thereafter, my normal urinary function returned. Apparently, the nerves which control bladder function are very close to the area in which the j-pouch surgery is performed. Clamping things needs to occur very carefully or there can be temporary or even permanent damage to the nerves in the region.
I also had a difficult time using the restroom after the second surgery and did not have a catheter. Essentially, my surgeon said it was due to everything being moved around in my belly. He said to give it a few days to see if it got any better, or else he was going to send me to a specialist. It got better on it's own very gradually. Seemed like it took 3-4 weeks before I could actually go 'on command' so to speak. Smiler

Hope things get better for you!
