Hey friends!

Help! Every article I have read really draws a connection between the level of experience a colorectal surgeon has with these J-pouch surgeries to the quality of results people experience... And yet this doesn't seem to be readily available information!

Do you guys know any way to find out how many of these surgeries a surgeon has done (without 'interviewing' tons of surgeons)? Or are there trustworthy sites that help locate "top" surgeons for a certain kind of surgery?

Sorry if it's a dumb question! I just feel like I'm getting nowhere, and have to make a blind decision (since I need to have surgery in either Atlanta or Seattle, but don't live close to either place.. so interviewing a surgeon in those places isn't a real option).

Thanks for any direction or help you can give!

First- I think having this type of surgery done either at a teaching hospital or one that has a sept that specializes in GI surgery is important. From there you can see from their web site which colorectal surgeons do jpouch surgery. Once you get a few names- ask if anyone on this site has been to them. When I asked my surgeon how many jpouch surgeries she performed- she didn’t want to give me an exact number but rather told me how long she’d been doing them. It can be a daunting process so hang in there!
