Hi group thanks for the add , my name is mike and i have a stoma and a bag since august 2012 because of the surgery i developed parastomal hernias big as a tennis ball basicly one huge hernia like a pregnant woman ready to give birth im in a 6x shirt and the hernias are getting big im 240 doc says if i can lose 50 pounds and get reconected i think a j pouch i will be ok maybe its a very serious operation im scared but it needs to be done what do you all think yes or no ? i know were not docs but just looking for some friendly advice im scared big time , thanks , Big Mike .. no pun intended lol

This is a tough one. Just having these hernias, it is not a reason to not consider a j-pouch. Losing some weight helps reduce complication risks, including more incisional hernias later on. Since you are quite concerned, a second opinion may be your best bet before going forward with any plan.

Hopefully, your sphincters are in good shape after not being used since 2012. That can have an impact on the success of j-pouch surgery. If you have already had the j-pouch surgery and are simply diverted, then reconnection is not a big surgery.
