I used it for quite awhile (close to a year?) before I switched to Immiran, because whenever I tried to wean off the entocort I would flare again. At the time entocort was not considered appropriate for long term use, although I believe they have been doing studies to look at whether long term entocort is viable. I didn’t really experience any side effects from it except for my fingernails became thin and would split/peel.

I was on Entocort for around 6 months and while it was effective in reducing an area of inflammation at my J Pouch inlet, it is an immunosuppressant and I had a massive breakout of yeast infection and warts that was likely due to the combination of antibiotics with Entocort. Therefore I believe a short course is indicated. I didn’t have any side effects- it’s similar to Prednisone in action with less side effects and that is due to the mechanism of action. The main side effect to be concerned about is exposure to fungal and viral infections of used for too long and in conjunction with antibiotics.
