So Here I am, again. 14.5 weeks pregnant and feels like an obstruction. Woke up with stabbing pains yesterday. I have limited food, trying to push liquids, rested yesterday but trying to get through the day at work today. I have had a migraine for going on 2 weeks now (another issue for which I can’t take medicine) and this is making me bloated and uncomfortable. It’s hard to walk or even sit really but I figured if I’m at work it’s taking my mind off of things. It does hurt to touch my upper abdomen and uncomfortable to lays down flat bc it puts pressure on my stomach.

I did comitmonce yesterday but I can’t tell if it’s bc of the headache or the morning sickness (of which I’ve had almost daily...still).

I haven’t called my gastro, and I actually have an appt to see him tomorrow morning. I don’t want to go to the ER bc I know all they’ll do is give me fluids and it’ll be $250 for nothing. On the other hand, if I did call my doc, I know he’d say go to th ER and get checked out, especially with the baby.

My question is, should I call the doc, knowing he’ll send me to the ER? He’s over an hour drive so he won’t make me come to him to see him today, I know that. Or, do I just keep plugging along? Being pregnant, I know they won’t do a CT or x Ray, all they can do is an ultra sound to try and find a block. Is it worth it? I also have the baby to consider and right now I’m not eating for me, let alone two of us! Help!!

Re: “all they’ll do is give me fluids”

If you’re not dehydrated then the fluids aren’t very important. If you are dehydrated then the fluids are very, very important. So: are you able to take in fluids and hold them down? Are you peeing a reasonable volume at least a few times per day? Is your urine light colored or dark?

Yes I have small liquid ones. When I had my partial obstruction and full obstruction in the past I still had movements. My full obstruction was really bad with vomiting and runs and it got bad fast. I asked my doc the last time and he said it all depends on the type of blockage. He said it could just be a structure or a kink, as you’d say.

I think I’m going to push through until my appt tomorrow and see what he says.

Doc said it’s possible adhesions stretching from the growing baby, or it could be a kink or partial block that’s working it’s way through. I’m feeling a lot better today which is reassuring. My GI suggested I see my surgeon to touch base anyway and they were able to get me in today. She thinks a possible obstruction. Liquids today and if I’m still feeling better tomorrow, introduce food. Stay away from Imodium for now. If it gets worse, go to the ER for pain management and fluids. They can’t do any imagining to see if it’s adehsions or blockage bc of the baby, so we just wait hope it resolves on it’s own. Fingers crossed!!
