I’m about 9 months lost takedown Ns 11 months since my first surgery and I haven’t had popcorn. I think it’s the kernels - those small little buggers- that can get stuck. I’ve had a few blockages for no reason at all, so I don’t want to test my luck. Maybe I’ll try in the future but who knows. Not a huge staple missing on my diet so I’m okay with it. But I can understand if you’re a huge popcorn fan that it may be tempting.

Given that you’re still so close to your takedown I’d prob avoid it for another few months. Then try a little and see how it goes.

I am 2 weeks plus with my takedown. I eat pretty much just everything. Dont know much about blockages. I've been having sweetcorn boiled and soups regularly since ileostomy even now . Yesterday just had my first little cup of popcorn not too many just one handfull . Seemed fine nothing new. Maybe I'll try more later. But its good in my UC I couldnt have a single leave the cup alone. Try adding a little with a diet coke lol it'll make them sugary and will pass them down real smooth XD.

I eat popcorn carefully. I've never had a blockage from it but it can cause irritation on the way out. A few of my rules about popcorn are: only eat it when my pouch is behaving, only eat it at the same time as other foods, only eat 1 cup at a time. If you combine it with other foods the chaff is less of an issue and definitely don't eat a large bag on your own. You really don't want to get a blockage from popcorn because its not THAT tasty. I probably wouldn't risk it if your pouch is inflamed because I find it a scratchy irritating food. If you want a nice corn snack, I would go for something like pirate booty or cheese puffs that don't have any kernel.

Hi Gottswood, I have eatin popcorn once since the UC and j pouch. That being said, I ate it at a movie a couple of weeks ago. I am 3 months out from takedown. I ate way more than I should have or meant to, because I love movie popcorn and it is addictive. Anyway, I was fine, no I'll effects. Lucky me. To be on the safe side though, Google hulless popcorn. I have seen it in the grocery store, but have honestly never tried it. It might be the safer thing to try.
