I had my takedown surgery almost 2 months ago and things up until now have been pretty good. I was going maybe 5-6 times in a 24 hour period, with semi-formed stool (with the help of psyllium).
On Thursday (3 days ago) I suddenly developed a quite high fever (a little bit over 102F/39C) in the afternoon, and I noticed that my BMs were much looser during the evening. The following day, I was emptying pure green looking water.
That evening, I went to the ER and they took some blood tests. I don't remember all the details of the results, but it seemed fine (white blood cell count was normal, I remember). I was a bit dehydrated so they gave me IV fluids. The fever settled that night, but now (Sunday) I am still having watery green diarrhea and I'm even having some nightly leakage, which has never happened to me before. I just don't feel it coming at all.
I am not having any symptoms other than the diarrhea and leakage when sleeping. No abdominal pains, no real urgency, no blood in stool. It doesn't really sound like pouchitis to me, but since it's so early after takedown, I don't really know what my symptoms would be.
The doctor (and myself) suspects that it might be some kind of food poisoning. For lunch on Thursday, I had a chicken sandwich that I bought at a restaurant and then the fever started roughly 6 hours later.
Does this sound like pouchitis to you? Would it start so suddenly with a high fever?
Fortunately I have an appointment scheduled with my regular surgeon in two days, so I hope he can shed some more light on the situation.
