Hi! I am recovering from my ileostomy takedown/creation of j-pouch right now. Over the course of being sick, and then having an ileostomy, sex kind of lost most of its appeal. It became very uncomfortable physically, but also because I had trouble feeling sexy with an ostomy bag. Haha.

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 5 years, and we live together. I am really looking forward to reclaiming my body and that part of my life as I heal, but I'm also anxious about it. Nervous about pain/discomfort/trying too soon etc.

How long did you guys wait to have sex after surgery? And would you have waited longer? Is there anything I can do to prevent it from being painful or uncomfortable? Any advice/input is appreciated! Thank you!!

I waited two months after my first surgery and a month and a half after my second. Not sure I have advice for you since it was painful for me. I think i needed more time fooling around to get in the mood. Heading to the GYNO next week to see if everything is ok. Go with what feels right for you. If it hurts, stop and try other things.
