Hello all

We've been interviewing surgeons and found two that we like; however; each performs the surgery differently.  One does laparoscopic J-Pouch surgery and the other robotic J-Pouch surgery.  My husband is not sure the best way to go.  According to the surgeons Robotic surgery can take 6-8 hours but is very precise thereby making the recovery time less.  Laparoscopic will take about 4 hours .  The thought of my husband being under general anesthesia for 6-8 hours just scares me.  I would like to hear what method you had, how long did the surgery last, what was your recovery time, etc.  Any information would be appreciated as at some point we need to make a decision on which surgeon to use.

Thanks

I had laparoscopic surgeries (3 steps) for my j-pouch procedure.  My recoveries were pretty good.  The first was the most difficult for me as far as recovery.  The last was only difficult because of the time spent in the bathroom and the butt burn.  I think my first surgery was under 5 hours and the last was about 45 mins.  I was out of the house a little over a week after being released from the hospital following my takedown.  This was my experience, not the same for everyone.  I was prepared for much worse.
