Hi Guys, I had been doing really well since i started Infliximab infusions and subsequently cut all starch out of my diet to gain some control over my enteropathic arthritis.

I was feeling so good that unfortunately I made a stupid decision and played a bit of backyard soccer with my 4yr old. It was really minimal and i thought i could get away with it but i subsequently endured an extremely painful arthritis flare up that cycled through a lot of my joints over 5 days. Once the flare was over my knee blew up with fluid, it was painful and i could not put any weight on it and had to resort to crutches. I have had the fluid drained out and a steroid injection which was such a relief, it progressively got better until the 5th day and it just blew up again with fluid.

I'm really not sure how to get out of this cycle, has anyone dealt with swollen knee before. Rheumy suggested Methotrexate or Sulfasalazine to tackle the problem higher up...

Any advice or suggestions would be really helpful,

thanks awesome people

Thanks Annikki, I'm meeting with the rheumy this Wed. will probably start on the Sulfasalazine. I have a few more questions;

1. What type of arthritis do you have and how bad is it?

2. Did the Sulfasalazine affect your pouch BM in any way?

3. Did you get any noticeable side effects from taking Sulfasalazine?

thanks so much

Enteropathic. It was pretty bad.  My knee swelled to the point I couldn't walk.  I used a cane for quite a while.  Pain 24/7.

No impact on my pouch.  It's often used to also treat UC.

I had to slowly increase the dose as there is side effects.  For me it nausea, headache.  Both have subsided pretty quickly.  It would last a couple days and go away, then I would increase the meds every 4-6 days until I hit therapeutic dose. It's important to take them at the same time everyday spaced 12 hours apart. I only get occasional very mild nausea.
