Hi all!

6 months ago I had my first surgery after 6 years of UC. Before the surgery, I was told it would be done in 3 steps. Now my surgeon (who has been doing these kind of sugeries for more than 25 years) suggested to skip the 2nd part and go straight to the final one if everything seems alright when I'm in for the 2nd surgery. So basically I go into my 2nd surgery on november 28, but might wake up having the 3rd done. I'm alright with this, and this is'nt really my question - but now I got started

So - I would like to know how you guys felt after having the last part done. From what I'm told by the surgeon, It sounds pretty horrible for maybe up to 2 months, with toilet up to 20 times a day and so on.

I'm starting on a new job in the new year either jan 1st or feb 1st depending on how I recover - do you think this is possible or is it too soon maybe?

My last surgery and recovery went very well. Surgery was on June 6 and I was back at work on the third week of July. Just took some getting used to. I was never in the bathroom 20+ times a day. I’d say at the worst it was 10-12. But most of those were at night anyway. Once I returned to work I was in the bathroom before I left for work, once maybe twice at work and then the rest are at home.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the answers! It's not like I'm i an hurry to get ready for my job so that not my biggest concern. I'm more excited on how I'm going to feel while recovering. The surgeon was talking about one could feel sick for a while and generally feeling really poor the first few months. How was that for you guys? I'm thinking of going to the bathroom 10-20 times a day might be alright atleast for the two months. But if I at the same time feel sick and throw up for a month or two it's  of course another case.

I know this is different for every person, and some are lucky where some are unlucky, but how did you guys do while recovering?

My 2nd surgery was a breeze compared to the 1st.  Take down on Sept 17th and back at work Sept 29th.  Would have probably waited another week if I didn't have a job that allowed me to sit for most of the day during my recovery.  The first week  home I was making 12-15 trips to the bathroom and now just over a month out I am going 6-8 time a day. Could make it less, but still haven't completely gotten out of the old habit of heading to the bathroom when I feel the need.  My only frustration, which has improved was the 4-5 trips at night. Imodium and eating earlier has worked for me.  No issues with pain and recently  signed up for a Half-Marathon in April now that I have my life back! : )

Yes, I ended up having mine completed in two surgeries. Was in the hospital for 3 days and the only thing I would have done differently following my 2nd surgery is to have taken it a little slower reintroducing foods. The burn early on is no joke, but can be managed with barrier creams.  After 10 years living with UC slowly taking away my quality of life the outcome following surgery has been better than I ever expected. I am sure there will be some challenges in the future, but will take them any day compared to my prior reality.  Best of luck and hope all goes well!
