It seems that if I drink over 8 ounces at anyone sitting that my system can't handle it and I have long drawn out watery Bm's afterward,  which has been a tough adjustment  for me as I've always chugged at least one 16 ounce bottle of water at lunch or dinner within 20 to 30 minutes; anyone else experience this and  if so does it  get better?

Yeah I was a 'chugger' too, but now I find downing a pint flushes me most effectively lol.  I will have half a pint before a meal and finish it after the meal!  That way I still drink while I'm thinking about it, without overly harsh effects..  I probably should go easier than that to be fair, but I forget to sip lol

Interesting to discover this thread. I had an ira just leaving the rectum for bowel control back in 1994 for FAP when I was 14, I was due to have J POUCH surgery next month but I have been struck down by kidney stones. My hospital thinks I've been drinking incorrectly for years causing the stones. I am definitely a guzzler, drinking lots of tea and water plus a few sugary fizzy drinks. My surgeon has now got me drinking 2.5 litres a day, avoiding caffeine, fizzy and added sugar drinks and especially plain water. If I go over this target my bowel movements become very watery as the small intestines can't cope leading to less fluid going through kidneys.

The results of suppling 2.5 litres a day are incredible. No more diarrhea, well formed poops, easily half the bowel movements and with the help of imodium no night disturbances for the first time in memory. It's given me hope when my job pouch surgery is rescheduled sometime next year.

Being in a constant state of dehydration without a large intestine. .I drink more than the "half my body weight in ounces of water"daily.. That is my minimum to keep things flowing. I can down a 12 to 16 oz of room temp water without issues..I do tend to drink my water through out the day and never with meals.. and since Im up through the night visiting the Throne Ill take a sip of water then as well.. lemon juice or raw apple cidar vinegar splashed in water helps to nutralize the acid output.
