Hi everyone,

I am going in to hospital Tuesday to have my baby via c section, and need to fast from midnight the night before. I can have clear fluids up until 6.30am on Tuesday.

I just wanted to get some advice on what I should eat (or do) to try and raise the pH of my output so it doesn't give me that awful butt burn we all know. I know some foods set it off for me but I think it's mostly if I don't have enough food in my system to bulk it up. The resultant liquid fire passing over anal fissures is not good!

I know I will need to get a good nights sleep but at this stage I plan on eating as much low fibre food up until midnight, and might hit the water hard in the morning.

Any other tips for me?

I am also going to ask my OB Monday if they can pop a drain up my bum just for a few hours until I get some food post delivery- not sure about this though.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Scott F and Bobish,

I might try the zantac last thing before I go to sleep and maybe the lemon water in the morning. How much lemon needs to be in it to be effective?

Yeah Scott F, whenever I don't eat or empty when I should it ends up being BAD!

I am sure they will have something at the hospital they can give, just wanted to try and avoid it in the first place.

Thanks!

Hello, Megane. If I'm having a glass of lemon water, I'll squeeze a small wedge of lemon into it. If I'm storing a jug of water in the fridge, I'll slice half a lemon into slices, pierce the slices with a fork and stuff the slices into the jug to steep and drink all day. It's also a matter of taste how much you want the tangy taste. You could add (fresh) mint or cucumber for flavour. A squirt bottle with nozzle will help ease butt burn too. I know a lot of new moms who use it for hygiene. Best wishes to you and Baby!
