A quick search of the forums suggests hernias aren't uncommon amongst us here? I was recently diagnosed with a hernia directly under my main abdominal scar (i.e. not the stoma scar). Luckily it seems to be fat, rather than blood vessel or bowel, so although the surgical team want to remove it it's not an emergency. And apparently it could happen again very easily, as the scar tissue is a weak spot.

Anyone else with a similar experience?

For about 8 yrs I have been getting them like flyers in the mail...They pop up when least expected...I had never experienced one before 2008 and then boom...5 or 7 since and sometimes in 2's and 3's...don't know why...just is (maybe menopause has weakened my tissue, maybe something else).

The 1st one was peristomal and very scary and difficult to fix...had outside-to-inside surgery that didn't take (necrosis) then full open surgery...finally got it to hold with laparoscopic & mesh fix...

Most of the others were done with mesh in the end...now I must look like a patchwork quilt on the inside but things are holding well.
