Hi,

I just had a pretty intense spin class this morning and I am now bleeding from the pouch--never had this before. Has anyone experienced this and is it ok to do high intensity exercise like this with the pouch? I am wondering if the suture lines where I have the ulcers are where the bleeding is originating from due to the intensity of spinnning. The toilet bowl was pretty bright red.

I  have also had very mild nighttime leakage recently with no other pouchitis symptoms. I wa thinking this could be attributed to my stricture at the anastomosis connection, but now I am wondering if the pouchitis has been simmering and has now gone into full blown mode. No other symptoms but a little left side abdominal pain.

I am confused as I have done spinning before with no issues and hate to give this up as it seems to really help my chronic fissures and stricture as well.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Any time you have ulceration bleeding is a risk. If the ulcer goes a bit deeper or erodes over a small blood vessel then the toilet can go on red alert.

I don't know how the spinning relates to this, unless a hemorrhoid is involved. The fact that you started to have increased symptoms before the spinning means that the spinning might be a coincidence, unrelated to the bleeding, but the timing is awfully suggestive of some connection.

I guess you should get it checked out. For what it's worth though I can't see spinning doing much damage to your pouch, it's non weight bearing exercise, you don't do a lot of stretching.  I do a lot of cycling, and it's really good for the core muscles as you have found.  Maybe a hemi or something burst?  Assume your not in any pain?

If you still have lots of blood today or any worsening of symptoms I guess you should get it checked out immediately.

Thank you for  the responses. I do have stomach pain today and increased bouts of leakage last night.  It appears no more blood though. I cant  tell if stomach pain is from the exercising or from pouch but night  leakage is never good and unsure if this is from pouchitis or stricture  as pouch is fine all day with no urgency, pain or loss of control.  I dud start  cipro yesterday to see if it helps w the leakage.

On another note if I take melatonin or any kind of sleep aid I always experience  mild nighttime leakage. It's so  frustrating as sometimes you just need to push through to get lat east four hours of uninterrupted sleep and deal with it

well maybe see how you go then.  regarding sleep aids....well...  you body is waking you up becuase you need to go.   Taking sleep aids are going to interfere with that mechanism so you probally would get leakage.

If you could address the leakage issue with diet, drugs, fibre, sleep position etc, you body might not need to wake you and you wouldn't need the sleep aids.   Of course its not often that easy...theres a whole science to sleep

I slept on my stomach last. Ight and for the  very first  time in six years since getting the pouch, I slept through the night ( which equated to 5.5 hours). I am usually up at least two times a night.  Thank you for this simple suggestion

My issue now is nightly incontinencr and I experienced it again upon waking.  I started cipro a few days ago and still no help.  I'm getting concerned now as this has been happening pretty much nightly ( 2:3 times a night) since  dilation several weeks ago.

Im going to restart vsl3, Metamucil and Imodium and lay off all sugar to see if I can get this under control.  I'm finding it very distressing as surgeon wants to do surgery for anal stricture and I'm not on board with more surgery w leakage going on  I'm fine during the day

Thats great news.. If you keep the pillows low that should minimise any lower back aches.

As for the leakage, try avoiding all unsoluable fibre (metamucil is good as is soluable but wholegrains, veggies/fruits, beans and lentils etc are bad).  Also control yeasts and sugars... i use xylitol over sugar as its tastes pretty much the same, but actually prevents fermentation.

Incidentally some people do get leakage on metamucil... so by all means try it but bear that in mind

Will do. Thank you.  I believe some of it is from has release during sleep also.  I just cannot believe I slept over five hours last. night without waking!!!!!!!!!!  I never sleep on my stomach as at my age I'm trying to avoid those facial wrinkles from your face mashed in the pillow but I'll do anything for sleep these days!!!!!
