I have been living with a stoma for 6 months now but I've been having severe neck pain and discomfort for two years now and I really need to see a chiropractor. However I'm scared that my stoma will get injured during treatment. I can't lie on my stomach and have the chiro smash my stomach into the table. I'm paranoid that I will damage the stoma. Please if any of you have experience with this let me know. Thanks

It sounds like you are overdue for some relief from your neck pain. I saw two chiropractors with my stoma. Just empty your bag before you go and let your chiropractor know that you have an ostomy. You can even lie on your stomach - I do it during yoga classes and massages, too - no harm to your stoma with the typical adjustments.

My stoma is flatter than yours so lying on my stomach isn't an issue (leaking under my ring is, though, unfortunately!)  but any chiropractor would modify the adjustment for you. You may sit in a chair or lie on the table just on your back.

I think that's why my surgeon made my stoma stick out more because of the leaking problems. Well, thanks for your help

When I was going through a series of K pouch revisions my back was killing me (all of the positions on the operating table and the hospital bed...murder on the back) so I went to see my chiro, a girlfriend from back home...they gave me the pillow that they use on pregnant women...sort of full of styrofoam beads or beans...it was perfect...no pressure whatsoever on my abdomen or pouch...worked wonders.

I have had chiro with stomas. Like Lambiepie said. Never had a problem.

The problem is that my stoma sticks out far and if I lie on my stomach it will hurt and feel uncomfortable. How were you able to lie on your stomach?

Moe,

When I had just had my surgery and couldn't lay on my stomach, the chiro adjusted me laying on my back using different way to adjust my back. Then to adjust my neck he had me sit in a chair. So you can be adjusted, just let the chiro know. Good luck

Can I sound a note of caution? There is a risk of adverse outcomes from chiropractic neck manipulations, but because chiropractors are not doctors, they are not required to warn patients about this.

You know how before a medical treatment, your doctor tells you all the potential risks and things that could go wrong to obtain your informed consent? Well, chiropractors aren't legally required to do that, and they aren't subject to the same scrutiny or penalties as medical doctors when something goes wrong.
