I had a sub-total colectomy for UC back in September and about a month ago my ileostomy turned dark red at the tip. I became worried and saw my surgeon and she said it was due to the stoma being kinked at the end therefore not receiving enough blood supply. But she said it was not concerning and that most people get it. She said since I'm going to have a j-pouch done soon there's no need to operate on it. I'm still worried and think it could be Crohn's. Has anybody had this before?. Please help.

I noticed that my stoma had varying colors. When it was darker, it did worry me too but the ostomy nurse said it looked fine. One thing that I read might have an effect is if you put the wafer on too tightly. If the stoma is getting squeezed a little, maybe that could reduce the blood supply.

I'm not sure why it would be Chrohn's. I didn't know that was even possible in a stoma. (But I had colitis, so I'm not up on the Chrohn's info.) If you're still worried, you could go see the ostomy nurse at your local hospital.

Ya I did see my surgeon and she said it was likely due to the stoma getting kinked ad squeezed. But she said since I'm going to have j pouch surgery soon she wouldn't operate on it. So, for now, it looks fine.
