Right after my original surgery I was diagnosed with chronic pouchitis and took cipro and flagyl daily for maintenance, which worked really well for years.  When I became resistant to these drugs I was at a loss and spent another two years going from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what was going on.  It got so bad that I started flying from the East Coast to see Dr. Shen at the Cleveland Clinic.  I tested positive for c diff and did amazingly well on vancomycin but have gotten worse since coming off of it.  This leads me to believe that for all these years I was misdiagnosed with pouchitis when I actually had c diff and I can't believe I had not been tested for it all these years.  The Flagyl I was taking for the pouchitis would have treated it c diff, while the cipro would have ensured that I got it again every time I tried to stop taking the antibiotics.

Anyway, after two weeks of taking vancomycin in which I felt better than I have felt in a long time, my symptoms have returned and Dr. Shen says I should do a fecal transplant rather than another course of antibiotics.  Has anyone had a fecal transplant to treat c diff in their pouch?

I had c-diff a month ago.  I was in the hospital two days and came home on Vancomycin and just finished it last week.  The problem I am having now is getting my pouch to empty.  I started getting more fiber in and drinking more water and it hasn't helped me at all.  I called my doctor this morning and I am  l am still waiting for him to return my call.  I am very worried about what they can do.

Do you have a blockage? C-Diff makes it hard for me to empty. I used to think it was a mechanical problem like a structure or a blockage but I never actually had a blockage and the vancomycin made that problem of emptying go away.  Have you had c-diff or a blockage before?  I think if you have a blockage you need to get that taken care of ASAP. Did they talk to you about a fecal transplant?
