I am being tormented by peri-anal abscesses with fistulae.  I DO NOT have inflammatory bowel disease.  My colon came out because it quit functioning totally.  Colonic inertia I guess.  Since January I have had three General anaesthetics for incision, drainage and packing of these abscesses.  I just got out of the hospital yesterday and I think I have a new one brewing on the right side this time.  They are very painful and make me feel quite ill.

Has anyone else in this group dealt with this type of problem?  My surgeon just shrugs his shoulders when I ask him what causes these.  I am fed up presenting to the ER in agony and going to the OR.

Any words of advice from someone who has been there would be really appreciated.

Michelle, it sounds like you are out of the US.  My son had a terrible time with abscess and fistulia.  You may want to see someone in Interventional Radiology.  They inserted a drain through his butt cheek.  It was in a really long time and I must say depending on placement, can be painful it hitting a nerve.  The abscess has to be coming from somewhere.  Do they know where?  Something sounds weird to me.  And is there a fistula?  Usually they go together from my understanding.  Perhaps find another doctor too.  They should know how to deal with these issues, it happens frequently.  My son finally got rid of his issues with an experimental procedure in Sept.  it was done in NY.
