So I'm scheduled to have my take down on the 27th of this month and the surgeon is only taking off work for only 4 weeks. Is that enough time to adjust to the new plumbing? Should I be asking for more time off?
Brenda depending on what kind of work you do, you should be alright. Dont forget, nothing is written in stone. If you need more time, request it. If you are still having pain or going to the bathroom at lot, tell them you are not ready to go back. Good luck!
I agree with Jeffsmom. My takedown was in early August but I did not go back to work until the end of September. My surgeon told me to let him know when I felt up to working again. When I first went back, I worked in the office. Now I am back to working on the road. I do home visits, but am working part time by choice, semi-retired. It's all individual.
Short-term disability is pretty good about giving you more time if you need more time. Just give them like a week heads up going into your third week of recovery. THey will most likely follow up with the surgeon to OK it but I don't think the surgeon will deny you.
Thanks I worry because I work front and back office at a college clinic and I go out and help if we get a emergency call if there is a campus injury. Financially I would to be at 100 percent in 4 weeks because we don't get state disability so my time off is without pay but I would much rather be without pay and give my self enough time to heal and adjust to the new plumbing than be back to work and be expected to be able to work as I did prior to the take down especially since I won't have anyone to cover me for frequent bathroom breaks :0(
Good luck with your take down. I just joined this sight for information and support. I have learned so much already. I had my take down last Friday, and was scared to death after all I had read. I prepared myself for the worst. Luckily, I have not had any nightime accidents. I actually feel like I could go back to work and be okay. I'm giving myself time to heal, but I have been pleasantly surprised as to how few problems I have had. I told my hubby last night that I think I'm ready to go back to work. Hope the same for you!
Wow :0) I'm glad to hear that. The unknown is always scary. I had a hard recovery with my first surgery so I have been preparing my self for the worst as well. I'm glad to hear there are some people that feel better right away it gives hope to a fast recovery. :0)
I also expected this to be the worse of the three surgeries but I found recovery was not as bad as I thought. My most difficult recovery was my first, but I was in pretty bad shape, from what I've been told. I have had some night time leakage, but it has improved a lot since taking Immodium before bedtime and trying not to eat too late. It does take a while to adjust, but so far I have no real complaints.
I've been out since January 30th colon removel then 2 months later march 21st 2017 I am now two weeks into my j pouch and it's been a nightmare I wear depends and a big hug trash bag around me everywhere I go I've had numours things happen blood clots dehydration from constant flowing I don't know what to do I'm loosing money being home I'm going broke about to lose everything I got
Hi muchaelc78, have you tried Imodium? I am just over 3 weeks since takedown and Imodium has helped tremendously. I took my kids to the aquarium today without any issues
Everyone told me thickening foods, which was mostly carbs, that didn't help thicken. Once I started taking Imodium, I've been eating a more balanced diet and had thicker output, without any major pooping or leaking issues. Good luck to you.
