After trying to deal with intense pain, leaking and general troubles I finally took myself to the ER yesterday morning.  I was seen promptly and admitted for an MRI with the surgeons thinking I have a peri-rectal fistula.  They offered me dilaudid (hydromorphone) around noon yesterday and hallelujah for the first time in weeks I was pain free.  27 hours later I am still in the ER waiting for a bed upstairs but getting IV Cipro and Flagyl.  The nurses have been so kind and I have complete confidence in the surgical team.  I'm just bored out of my mind waiting for a scan that might even take place tomorrow.  Oh well...the neighbour is feeding the cats so I'll just sit here and stew.

I finally went to the OR last night about 5:00 pm where they did an I&D of an abscess.  Waking up from the anaesthesia was a nightmare of shivering and pain.  However, nice warm blankets, a comforting nurse and a whack load of fentanyl and dilaudid fixed most of my problems.  I have packing in my bottom end and am waiting for the surgeon to come in to tell me exactly what they found.  Hoping I can go home after I have a poop, just to make sure everything is working down there.  Being NPO for 48 hours makes my pouch silent.  To tell you the truth, I am quite scared of that first output.

Until then, it is more ice chips for me.

Thanks.  I was sent home Sunday afternoon.  Removing the packing was unbelievably painful.  I ended up sitting on the Sitz bath with nurses giving me dilaudid IM.  Oh Lord.  It finally came out 3 hours later during another sitz bath.  Whew.  I am home now and very sore and quite nauseated.  Tylenol #3 makes me feel quite sick so I'll just stick to Advil.  My pouch is working well and my neighbour is bringing soup and muffins.  Life is getting better.  The surgeon said that the fistula and abscess had nothing to do with the original j-pouch surgery.  Hmmm....interesting.  I have a follow up with him in 4 weeks.  In the meantime it's Netflix all the way.
