Hello - I am a new member of this forum, but I've been reading it for 18 months. I had UC for 15 years (I'm 58 yrs.old) before total colectomy and j-pouch in June 2015; take-down Sept. 2015. I've had pouchitis once and I'm on maintenance Cipro and Entocort. I developed a perianal abscess and had I & D in June 2016, then a fistula developed and I had a seton placed in July 2016. I've been doing well with the seton and just had LIFT fistula surgery three days ago, though my surgeon and GI suspect I'm developing Crohn's. She went ahead with surgery because I wasn't inflamed and the fistula had matured well, and I really wanted to get rid of the seton.
After the surgery, I had a very small amount of pink drainage for 2 days, then last night with a BM there was bright red blood, then lots of pink/yellow watery drainage for several hours. Then after another BM I found a large amount of brown stool on the gauze - much more than I ever had with the fistula before the surgery. Since then stool has continued to seep out of me from both the repaired fistula and the incision site - I looked with my mirror to see where it was coming out and could see it dripping. It stings like crazy coming down through the incision site every time I go.
I called the surgeon's office (she's now away on vacation for the holidays) and her PA said I'm on hold until she gets back in a week, but if I start to abscess I have to go to ER.
Has anyone had stool come out after LIFT surgery? Do you think this is a sign of failure? Hoping I don't have to have 2 setons now.
