In August 2015 I had an ileostomy/stoma reversal. Since this time I have suffered from unpredictable severe diarrhoea many times a week. After a lot of research and eliminating many foods from my diet, without any improvement, I came across the low FODMAP diet and have found that it has helped me enormously, although it is hard...it is a very strict on allowed foods, amounts and  combinations. I also take Benefibre and a probiotic daily. The only people I have heard of who use this diet are IBS sufferers, and I wondered if anyone else post bowel cancer surgery has found it a help. It would be great to speak to someone in the same situation. Thanks for reading.

I have been inactive on this forum for a while and decided to check in. My UC diagnosis was always a bit provisional but was treated with mesalamine, etc...  About a year and a half ago, on a hunch, I decided to try going gluten free, which as a practical matter means cutting out wheat and rye. The positive effects were rapid and profound. I am essentially symptom free, only becoming ill when I slip up on the gluten. My GI doc is now leaning against the UC diagnosis, although he still has me taking 1000 mg. of mesalamine per day just as a precaution.
