I have my first blockage since my reconnection in February. I spent the evening in emergency and am back home now because there were no beds. I'm taking 5mg morphine for pain, using a heating pad periodically and praying for release. Is there anything I can do to help myself through this? The blockage showed up on the X-ray as very close to the rectum.

I am so sorry D.D.
Yes, you can help yourself with movement. It is anti-intuitive because all you really want to to do is curl up in a ball on the sofa but you must keep moving.
Walking up and down stairs (hold the handrail, please), walking in circles..just walk!
I use a large yoga ball. I roll around on it, sit and bounce gently, roll from side to side, drape my body over it backwards...they all help to stretch things out gently and ease the tension in my back and guts.
Mine usually last about 24hrs of misery. The bouncing seems to be the best remedy...if you have a basketball or soccer ball in the house that can work too.
Do not overdo it...just try for about 5mins every hour...the heating pads help and so do hot baths. If it is full occlusion then you probably cannot drink anything but if you can get liquids down at all, try some hot tea (green tea seems to help a lot). Keeping hydrated is difficult during blockages so if you can at least suck on ice chips they please do.

Thanks SKN69
just got home from the hospital....
i still ill have a partial blockage but they let me come home as I promised to drink only fluids. Your reply has many suggestions I never thought about...so THANK YOU
It happened to me also - I go to hospital and they put zonda immediately - one spoon of oil could help
Osama Mady
what is zonda?
Another partial blockage...I am trying the ball...and moving around as much as possible. The difficult part is trying to stay calm and focused
Zonda is a plastic tube they insert it through the nose until it reach the stomach, it's takes out the liquid from the stomach if u have a blockage
DD,
So sorry...Can you gently (very gently) drape your body over the ball (sort of like a melted cat?) frontwards and then backwards? You sort of kneel down with the ball in front of you and put your arms over it then roll gently forward until your tummy is draped over the ball...Then you just allow it to sort of hang over the ball...your hands can stabilize you in front of it and your feet stay on the ground behind it...then you rock forwards and backward and then side to side.
You can do the same thing with your body draped over it the other way (your back melted over it)...
During obstructions it helps me to gently rock things loose or I sit on it and bounce up and down and side to side...it relieves the stress in my back too.
Good luck
Sharon
ps...stay hydrated!
