I've been rockin along the last few weeks doing better every day - just commented to the hubs this morning that I finally feel like a "normal" person... Then we went out to eat. I didn't eat anything that I hadn't already tried and had success with. On the 30 min trip home began to be nauseated. Got worse and worse. Had to excuse myself from church services to vomit and now also have diarrhea. Temp is 99.6 which is 2 degrees above my norm. Could it be food poisoning??? Help!

Like Barrister said, not much to do but stay hydrated, try to replace those mineral salts that you have lost by sipping something replenishing (coconut water or gatorade or pedialyte) and if anything happens that starts to worry you beyond the 'normal' running from both ends then head to the hospital...fast.

Abnormal includes fainting, severe headache, sharp pains so strong that you are doubled over, chills, a fever above 99°, vomiting strong and uncontrollable to the point of feeling like your guts are coming out etc...you probably know this already.

Things that you can use to help this along would be rice water (cook a pot of rice with double the water and then drink the excess...it is pure starch and thickens output nicely), charcoal tablets or burnt toast (the charcoal absorbs some of the impurities in the guts supposedly)...also I have personally found that Gravol or Dramamine (the motion sickness medication that is OTC) is good to slow things down. I use the children's version that dissolves under the tongue...it slows the gut nicely and helps you to get some sleep.

Norovirus can be caught through contaminated food, contaminated surfaces, or with contact with contagious people. It is highly contagious (it is the GI bug that sweeps through cruise ships). Low grade fever is pretty common with it. You will be contagious for a couple of days after your symptoms resolve. The good news is that it is a fast moving virus, and usually resolves within 2-4 days.

I just recovered from a bout of this a week ago. I came close to needing to go to the ER for fluids. Once the vomiting stopped, I craved chicken broth. Avoid regular sports drinks, like Gatorade, as the high sugar content promotes diarrhea. G2and other low sugar hydration drinks are OK.
