Hello all.

Had my takedown on Wednesday and it went very smoothly. I was able to pass some liquid and gas on Thursday and allowed to go home.

As I began to eat more solids, I started having some really bad gas cramps and urges. Today has been almost unbearable and I have had a continuous bubble in my abdomen of gas that just makes me super nauseous. My stools are actually thick, which is making draining the pouch much more difficult. I am straining a lot even though I am not supposed to.

I am hoping to gain some insight on how long this adjustment period lasts. I've been reading all over here that it is hell and then smooth sailing and I see that in my future I am just wondering when. How long was the period of adjustment and cramps for each of you?

Thanks!

I vividly remember the excruciating pain due to gas,  the slow passage and the cramping.  It was very difficult.

But, as time went on these discomforts slowly diminished and eventually receded into the background.  It takes time and there are occasions where you may despair.  Be patient and give time for the body to adjust.  How long?  Everyone is different.  Just have confidence that you will move beyond this point as healing progresses.  Patience - give the body time and you will outgrow these temporary discomforts.

Sorry you are not feeling well yet.

I had my reversal 3 wks ago. The first week and a half were absolutely horrible. Thank god for oxycodone and reassuring from folks on this website that things will get better

In the past week and a half I have been able to return to my post UC self (with the exception of a few more trips to the restroom).

Try to relax as much as you can and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hot baths, sleep and pain meds are what all helped me through that very hard week and a half.
