I've had blockages occasionally since my jpouch surgery in 2002, however usually only 1 a year. This summer I've had 6 of them! Has anyone had an increase like this? Trying to figure out the root cause. Wondering about scar tissue? My pouch is slightly inflamed right now but when I mentioned blockages he didn't seem to be concerned or care. Upsetting because they are so awful to go through. Just looking for advice. Now feeling scared to eat anything but I'm pretty thin as it is so don't want to lose more. Thanks!

I had never had a blockage before 2008...after nearly 30 years with a pouch...then they started picking up speed...firstly just post op ileus...when the gut doesn't wake up immediately...then I started getting return blockages in the same spot...sometimes total blockages where I couldn't keep a drop or ice chip down and others where it could sip water and juice until it passed...fortunately it always passed within 24 hrs.

I have had surgery to remove the blockage ( it was a loop of bowel that was adhesed to the abdominal wall)...although it helped somewhat (its been 18 months) I still get continuous blockages in the same spot and now they think that the adhesions are back and strangling the intestine slowly or there is a narrowing or kink in the bowel...

There are basically 2 ways to find out...either an upper or lower g.i exam (sometimes they scope it or make you swallow a pill cam or do a scan) or they just go in (hopefully through laproscopy) and take a look around.

I understand the fear of food...specific solids scare me to death so I avoid them...I stick to low residue foods, low fiber and nothing that can do too much damage or block things up.

Drink lots of fluids, hot fluids help...use a heating pad, stretch a lot, massage the area using hot oil to help go deeper with the massage.
