If your GI wrote you a script, while the pharmacy might not have it in stock, they can order it so that it'll arrive in a few days. I don't see why it would be different than civilian medicine.
The VA has a procedure to enable docs to order non-formulary meds. If your VA doctor believe you should be taking VSL then they should be able to make it happen.
Thanks for the information. I will be making an appointment with the VA to get started and see what happens. I have appt. with my surgeon today for exam and then follow-up pouch-o-gram. Takedown soon! BTW, not a sir! But that's ok. My husband always gets invited to march in the local Memorial Day's Parade, even though he didn't serve.
I always pay for my refrigerated VSL pills because insurance doesn't cover it. I didn't even think to ask the VA. I go to the VA, but I just assumed they would never cover VSL#3. I'll ask soon here in Boston.
However on another note the VA provided me free depends and free calmoseptine for all the accidents I have from night time mishaps. I am service connected with U.C. Otherwise I would have to pay. I found out they give nothing away unless you ask the right people sometimes over and over its the government after all. Good luck!
Here is a site that my sister gave me for getting financial assistance or free Vsl 3 DS. NORD (national Organization for Rare Disorders. Their site is rarediseases.org. Go to Patient Assistance Programs. Then go to Medication Specific Assistance program for VSL #3DS. The phone number is 1-877-279-2459. The e-mail is vslds@rarediseases.org. At this time my surgeon suggested Align. I will be having my Takedown on Monday, August 8th. So I will see how things go from here. I will be registering with the VA once I feel up to dealing with that.
