my wife got her 2 step surgery, takedown was 07.

Pouchitis was chronic.  Along with chronic use of antibiotics.

This site gave us idea for pepto.  It's been a god send. Hasn't had antibiotics in years.  However only the chewables work.  Don't know why...  When she feels pouchitus coming on, she will take (x amount of tabs per day). I'll ask her how many. It clears it up.

Now we travel, go camping, etc everywhere. Generally pouchitis will trigger when she is traveling due to going off of clean eating habits. Pepto clears it right up  start taking the second you feel it coming on.  Long term I know not great, but better than antibiotics, steroids, other immune suppressors.

That is another thing. Eat clean. Eat real food.  If the package has ingredients you can't pronounce, don't eat it. Whole, real, foods. Wife is also a fitness competitor and personal trainer.   Point for that comment, is to tell Ya all to take charge of your health and eat real food. In our experience, doctors know nothing on how to improve quality of life. Its trial and error. But the consistant thing is eat real food, not processed garbage.

I realize its a tough condition, while I preach and watch on sidelines. I've just first hand witnessed my wife turn it all around, the body is amazing, fuel it, give it a chance to try and improvise.

My wife may someday get on here and post. She is not emotionally healed from the ordeal, not to mention a heart attack while delivering our last son. But physically she is phenomenal.

I will post to help where I can. This site helped us emmensially.

Also, please hit me up. After a lot of years, I've learned some.  She's been successful.

Delt with her first and only blockage recently. Figured out what caused it.   ..... Extended periods of time not eating, followed by a salad.

No medical intervention, other than a drive to ER, IV, X-ray, and magically it cleared itself out. My honest opinion was her moving around, and car ride helped. But I'm no doctor.

I've had one small bowel obstruction and I almost died ... Hospitalized for a month and I can honestly say that I've never experienced pain to that extreme... EVER!!! I did learn after all was said and done... White grape juice breaks up the obstruction so now I always keep a bottle in the house! I live on Lomotil and Imodium has never helped me. I may try Pepto. Before my reversal (when I had the OSTOMY) I took Pepto and it helped a lot!!! Thanks for the reminder   This site is great!!

I understand the pain, well I don't understand but I have seen it.  My wife has a high tolerance. I thought she was dying.  She couldn't move, vomiting, sweating, etc.  I'm glad you pulled through. Thank you for your tip in the grape juice. We will add that to our arsenal.

Yes, the pepto like I said has helped so much. Chewables    When she gets home I'll ask her how many and how often.

best of luck!!!
