A friend of mine told me when I exercise and lose a lot of water weight I flush out a lot of toxins that way.  And that got me to thinking since whatever I consume sticks around in my body about as long as somebody dining at some fast food joint does, do I even have any toxins sticking around long enough in there to begin with?

That might make sense if that concept actually was real. You do not release "toxins" in your sweat, or even in your colon. It is something that folks who want to sell detox products and procedures like people to believe. The liver detoxifies and the kidneys and gut expel the byproducts.

Ok, can you blame me for hoping my friend was correct though since I still haven't found one benefit that made a pouch worth getting long ago?  Well I don't bleed anymore, that didn't really bother me though, it was the diarrhea and flare ups that were the real problem long ago.

Sure, entirely reasonable to be hopeful of some unexpected benefits.

For me, I have a couple:

I was chronically anemic pre-colectomy, even in remission. Now I am always in the normal range and can even donate blood.

My cholesterol levels dropped post colectomy. The colon reabsorbs bile, which is mostly cholesterol.
